Overview

Wasel is a multi-currency fintech platform that simplifies international transfers for individuals and businesses in the UAE through a secure, transparent, and seamless mobile experience.

My goal was to design a fintech product that balances compliance, trust, and usability while keeping the experience modern, minimal, and frictionless.

The Problem

Cross-border money transfers in the UAE often come with several pain points:

  1. Hidden transaction fees

  2. Slow transfer processing

  3. Poor exchange rate transparency

  4. Complicated onboarding flows

  5. Fragmented experiences across different platforms

Existing transfer solutions often feel complex and outdated, making international transactions stressful for everyday users. The challenge was to design a secure yet simple experience that makes global money movement feel seamless and intuitive.

The Solution

I designed Wasel as a clean, mobile-first fintech experience focused on:

  1. Fast international transfers

  2. Real-time currency exchange

  3. Transparent transaction limits

  4. Streamlined onboarding

  5. Secure identity verification

The platform was structured to support both personal and business accounts while remaining compliant with UAE fintech expectations.

Research & User Understanding

To understand the ecosystem, I identified three major user groups:

Personal Users

Users sending money to family abroad who prioritize simplicity, trust, and good exchange rates.

Business Owners

SMEs handling supplier payments and international transactions who require higher limits and reliable transfers.

Currency Exchange Operators

Professionals managing high-volume transfers who need speed, transparency, and liquidity movement. These personas helped shape the onboarding structure, account tiers, and transaction flows.

Product Strategy

The product strategy focused on building trust, simplifying international transfers, and creating a seamless financial experience through key areas of the app.
